#GIRLBOSS Sessions: What Makes You Great For A Leadership Position?

I’m a huge fan of female girl bosses. I find women who are in leadership positions to be so fucking badass and sexy and I aspire to be one of them. I mean, just look at Sophia Amoruso, Sheryl Sandberg, Lily Singh and Sherlyn Tan, they’re such inspirational figures to young girls out there! To be a great #GIRLBOSS, you’ll have to first be a good leader. Whether you want to be a good leader in your own business or your current job, you can do that easily by having a great attitude and embracing the talent and skills that you already have. Ready to find out what makes you great for a leadership position? Let’s get started!

Have a Vision

If you have nowhere to take your team and your company, that’s the first thing you’re going to need to work on. Not being able to visualize a place you want to be, such as having a higher sales conversion rate or reaching a goal your employer has been trying to target for months, means your vision is clouded and you don’t really have a goal to work towards. You don’t have to be too ambitious when you begin, but be sure to aim far enough for others to notice your capability.

Have Good Confidence

Confidence is quiet. If you’re constantly needing to tell other people or even yourself that you are confident and have the skills to lead, you may need to tone it back a little. Every time you declare something like this, you’ll only come across as a person who doubts him or herself a lot. Keep your self affirmations for yourself when you practice in front of the mirror.

If you have the right amount of self esteem and can lead, the message will get carried across to your workers. The ability to give constructive criticism is important to prove your leadership quality. If you’re too nervous to point out that someone is doing wrong because you’re worried about any backlash or upsetting them, you need to work on it. Good confidence will help you get to where you want to at the end of the day.

Have Effective Communication Skills

Being able to talk is one thing, but being able to get a point across when you’re talking is another. A lot of people underestimate the power of words, and what one or two words that are out of place can affect the entire mood of an audience. As a leader, knowing how to inspire staff is essential in your workplace. Don’t let people get turned off by your speeches. On a contrary, you want to them to be intrigued and interested to know more about you or what you’re offering.

If you feel you’re not up to scratch when it comes to opening your mouth, perhaps you can try out some official communication skills training programs. The professionals should be able to tell you what you’re doing wrong and how to get over them.

Perhaps you’re working towards being your own #GIRLBOSS, perhaps you’re trying to take your career more seriously and go for that management promotion your boss has been hanging over your head, whatever it is, these skills should put you at a better leadership position. Not everyone is born a leader, but it’s definitely a skill that can be trained and worked towards to. Good luck in your #GIRLBOSS journey my fellow girl friends, till our next one! xx
