Hello everyone! How is your New Year’s resolution to stay healthy going? It is only the third week of January, I hope you’re not giving up yet! My NYR is going alright, I am really proud that I had been going to the gym 3-4 times a week, and I am also able to prepare healthy meals every day.
For those of you who are not used to the “healthy lifestyle,” I understand that eating healthy and working out can be really time consuming and intimidating. I came up with this list of things you can do to be healthy without changing your diet or working out. Well, to be completely true, these are the things that you should do BESIDES eating healthy and working out, not WITHOUT. But I thought it’ll be nice to frame the title that way so that I can lure you lazy fools into reading my blog post. ? These are things that are equally important as diet and fitness activities, but are often overlooked when one plans to have a “healthy lifestyle.”
1. Sleep 7-9 hours every day
An adult needs an average of 7-9 hours of sleep in order for the body to function properly. This is because sleep is the only time our body gets to recover physically for the growth and repair of our body cells. Sleep deprivation is a cumulative problem that can cause life-threatening conditions like impaired judgement and increased risk of obesity. Need some tips on getting a better sleep? Check out my blog post on things you can do to get a better sleep.
2. Drink lots and lots of water
Water is important for the daily functioning of our body, such as flushing toxins out of our organs and carrying nutrients to our body cells. I used to avoid drinking lots of water because I pee a lot whenever I drink. However, I realized that it’s really important to prevent myself from being sick, and it really helps a lot in improving my skin condition. I recently received a 700ml water bottle for my birthday (the one in the cover photo above) and it is the perfect size, 2-3 rounds and I’m hydrated for the day! Thank you so much Linette! ❤️
3. Stay positive all the time!
Being healthy is not just about being physically healthy, your mental health plays a crucial role too! It is important to remain hopeful and stay positive in everything that you do. When you’re unhappy, you get demotivated, and your lifestyle gets bad. Simple actions like listing out 3 things that you are thankful for every day can help to instill a positive mind despite your stressful work/school life.
4. Maintain good relationships with people
Social health is equally important as physical and mental health. Human beings are social animal; we depend a lot on others for our survival. Maintain healthy relationships with your friends and family, keep in touch with them and hang out with them when you’re free. They are the ones who will provide support when you’re sick or when you’re sad, they’re important.
5. Be active in your every day activities
If you don’t have time for gym, try to be active in your every day life. Walk 10 blocks to the grocery store instead of hopping onto the bus, scrub your bathtub and toilet every weekend, dance as you are waiting for your toast to toast or microwave to beep; be creative with your every day activities and don’t be afraid to look silly. You are living for yourself, and being active will definitely keep you healthy.
And there you go, 5 ways to stay healthy besides eating healthy food and working out. Remember, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Aim to find the balance, be healthy in your physical, mental and social life, you’ll feel so much better about yourself after achieving that.
Good luck to us in living the healthy lifestyle! ?
